2011 Hyundai Elantra 40MPG
The new 2011 Hyundai Elantra is out and Hyundai wants you to know that all their Elantra models will get 29 mpg city and 40 mpg highway. And they want you to know that there are no disclaimers attached to those figures.
To make a point, Hyundai recently pointed out in a press event that the Chevrolet Cruze states a 42 mpg* highway number which is only available in it's Eco model which will cost an extra $1900 ($2825 if you want it with an automatic transmission). Another competitors model, the smaller Fiesta, requires a $2765 premium for a Super Fuel Economy package to match the Elantra's 40 mpg highway number.
Hyundai also noted that the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla and Mazda3 also lag behind the new Elantra in fuel economy as well, and none can beat the Hyundai's starting price of $15,550.
