First Woman GM Product Chief
Mary Barra has been promote as the new head of product development at General Motors. She is the first woman to hold that key position at a major automaker.
Barra has an engineering background. She served as vice president of GM's global manufacturing engineering, was a plant manager and worked in internal communications at the company. Her previous position at GM was vice president of human resources.
Barra worked on the engineering of GM's popular and successful crossover vehicles, the Buick Enclave and GMC Acadia, during her time in engineering.
Barra will assume her new job on Feb. 1.
